Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Help me LAWGURUS!!

I have 3 known default judgments in the original amount of $4k, $3k & $800. All CC debts & entered in NYC courts in 1998. All gone finally from my CR last year. But as I understand they are still outstanding judgments till their SOL expires.

There were also 3-4 other CC debts which I failed to make any payments after 1998. CR says they were mostly charged off and/or sold to another lender. Is it possible to dig out information like who owns them now or if a judgment was ever filed for those debts anywhere in the U.S.A. including NYC?

I left NYC right around that time and now live in Iowa. Here are my understandings about these old CC debts - I need to take care of at least those 3 judgments that I know exists for sure. Regarding the other CC debts, unless judgments were entered, the SOL for debt collection should have already been expired.

I really need to completely clean myself from this mess. Thinking about buying a house and it will be the last thing I want to see that some old debts are after my assets. Need suggestion from all you LAW GURUS! What are my options? Vacate or settle these judgments or just do nothing. I understand that ultimately I have to get a lawyer to cover all the loop holes.

As to the judgments, if you life in a different state than New York, it is highly unlikely that the judgments have followed you there.

Lay low, say nothing...deal with them only iof they come up on title issues and then try to deal with them.

It seems highly unlikely that after all these years they judgments would be moved to your state.

Good Luck
