Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Litigation for Credit Card Debt

I was behind on credit card payments and went on a debt reduction program. The payments were made to the credit card company but one acct was sold to a law firm. They have called stating the account is in litigation and demanding full payment immediately or they will sue. What happens and what options do I have as I don't have the money to pay them? What are they able to seize from me to collect this debt and will the court allow payments to be made?

Re: Litigation for Credit Card Debt

In a nutshell, they can sue you. The court usually does not get into payment arrangements they simply determine whether the debt is owed or not...(liability). They have nothing to do with payment.
