Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Outstanding Debt

Had a car that was repossesed by the bank. Now 7 yrs later a law firm is wanting information from my landlord in regard to me. I don't understand what he has to do with any of this. They also want to know how I pay my bills even after I told them that I am unemployed. Isn't there a statute of limitations on how long they can attempt to collect on this debt?

Re: Outstanding Debt

If there is a judgment, the period to collect on the debt is 20 years. If there is no judgment, the period to collect on the debt is 6 years.

The attorney for the judgment creditor must conform to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Mike.
