Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I owe money to a small business in NYC. I had to take care of several unexpected medical bills for some health issues that arose. I intend on paying the debt owed in the next couple weeks. But they just contacted a personal friend of mine which they found on social media. I never gave them this person's name as a contact. Is this legal?

Yes. i suggest you call them immediately to work out a payment plan before they hire lawyer and the fees go up.
