Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

my parents loaned money to my ex-husband and would like to assign the debt to me so I can be the one to collect the payments. How can they assign this debt to me so that I can collect on it? Is there a particular assignment of debt form that needs to be used in NY? Does it need to be filed with the courts?
