Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

What if I do not pay my bill?

I bought furniture opening a line of credit. One piece of the furniture was damaged and I would like to return it all. The company will only take one piece back, am I obligated to pay the bill or can I let it go to collections without any repercusions.

Re: What if I do not pay my bill?

You can and probably will be sued if you don't pay. See, you bought furniture on credit. Most likely, the company you bought the furniture from gave you a set of documents that say that you are buying furniture from them, but borrowing the money from someother entity (like a lending company). You are really paying back the lending company, not the company you bought the furniture from since the lending company probably paid the furniture company already...Get it? The lender can't take back the furniture...they are not in the furniture business and the LAW IS ON THEIR SIDE. Take a good hard look at the agreement and read ALL THE SMALL PRINT. my advise, exchange the dmaged piece and pay off the furniture.
