Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
Got phone call saying that I owed $7,420.00 to some company.the dates go back to june 2008.I asked if I could make payments on this and was told no that it had to be paid in full.If i didn't pay it in full or pay 1/2 now and the other half soon i would loss my job and go to jail.I called the bank and they had now idea what it was about.this lady told me that it was for some payday loans that didn't get paid.I have been paying off these payday loans and i have some paid off.I don't know what to do.If I do owe this money I want to pay it in payments until it is paid off.

You can;t go to jail for being in debt. The threat means that she violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and you can sue her. I suggest you talk to some local lawyers--the kind who usually handle automobile cases--and point out that the FDCPA awards attorneys' fees that are usually larger than the amount at stake.
Good luck.
