Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I ran a nonprofit organization. The organization gave me an American Express card. With the economic crisis we went out of business, yet American Express claims that I am personally responsible for the card and that if payment isn't made they will ruin my credit rating. Having been unemployed since June, paying on this AmEx bill is taking a huge toll on my family. What is my legal obligation?

You would have to read the agreement with AMEX. If you did not sign to be personally responsible for the debt, then AMEX may not seek money from you personally.
