Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I received a call from someone claining to be an investigator saying he was contacted by a company that I owed money to. Said if I didn't pay this amount a warrant would be issued within 3 days for fraud. I looked up his phone number and said he was in Georgia, and I am in New York. Could you tell me if this is legal or a scam? When I said that I didn't have any money he just wished me good luck. Thank you for your time

If he did not provide you with the name of the creditor and never bothered to give you additional information when you stated you had no money...it is probably a scam.
