Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
I received collection letter for amount owed of $800 (this is what the amount was consistently) I want to pay this off and have made two payments so far. Now am told that the client "forgot" to add
$150 to the original bill sent to collection and the collector is adding this to my debt. Can they do this ?

Yes, if the "error" is an honest one. If the $150 is for additional charges relating the the collection of the debt then the answer is "NO". If you signed an agreement to pay the amount then the answer is "NO" because the agreement is a meeting of the minds wherein you agreed not to fight them on the $800 in return for an installment payout.
