Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

recording conversations/ debt collector harrassment

I have a debt collector that has broken the Fair debt collections act by harrassing me with numerous repetitive phone calls that sometimes come within minutes, in addition They have used deceptive techniques to obtain information as well as disguise their repeated attempts to reach me. After asking them to stop the harrassing calls they continued when I told them I had proof of their repeted harrassing attempts through phone records they said did you record us, misunderstanding them I said yes at which time they told me I have broken the law and hung up. I didn't actually tape record them I have a ''record'' of their calls through my caller ID is this breaking the law???

Re: recording conversations/ debt collector harrassment

This is not a debt question but a general which the answer to which is that in NYS any party to a conversation may record the conversation, even without the knowledge of the other party.

Good Luck.
