Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

What if You Didn't Respond to a Summons?

My husband was given a summons for me by an attorney in a city about an hour away. He handed it to him, but said my name first. The document had $1,200 on it and gave a court date. I thought it was bogus and did nothing.

Can I be arrested? Could a person actually go to jail for not answering this or paying bills? Very curious about this.

No arrest in civil matters but a judgment may be taken against the defendant named.
