Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
A restraining order has been placed on my bank acount. How is this possible without the collector informing me first? What are my legal rights?

The judgment creditor may have received a default judgment. You should find out from the bank the name of the court and index number. You should then go to the clerk, pull the file, and look at the affidavit of service. If the affidavit of service is wrong, you would have to file an Order to Show Cause for a stay and to vacate the default judgment.
