Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
my rights
I've been served with 2 judgements. The 1st served a summons & I called them. They said I had to pay 30% down(no thing less was acceptable) and make payments for the balance. I did what they asked. The 2cd judgement was delivered by regular mail. I was in the process of talking to a comsumer credit program to get help, the day after I received this 2cd judgement. I received a letter a day later from my bank saying they had put a restraining notice against my ch.account, which they threatened in the judgement letter. I never received a summoms to appear in court for this judgement, & didn't have more than 48 hours to reply. I have checked my credt report & have a couple more debts in there, and total debt is under $5000.00. We are on a very limited income, but not on Social services/SSI. I don't know what to do? I can't afford a lawyer. I'm being treated by my doctor for depression. My mother died 9/2005, my brother and my husbands father are critically ill. We have no one to ask for money. I don't know what else they can take, my husband's small income, tax refund, our house. These accounts were in my name only. Is it to late for consumer credit help, I can't afford more payments. What can I do? Thank you
