Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
satute of limitations on judgements
I had a judgement against me in 1994 for back rent. I was evicted and was homeless for several years. I am back working again and have had my bank account frozen and told I must pay this back rent with interest. Is there a statute of limitations for a judgement from 1994? Thank-you

Re: satute of limitations on judgements
Since this was converted into a judgment, the creditor can take action to collect for 20 years.
But look to 'negotiate' a lower amount and a payment plan. Creditors will usually agree to something closer to the original amount.
