Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
serving papers to wrong address, wrong state
I was apparently served papers for a valid debt, just served to the wrong address. The papers were served to my parents address (in New York State) that I have not lived at since 2003. At this point I live in Pennsylvania. I have not contacted the law firm as of yet. Unsure how to proceed. Is it as simple as calling people up and saying ''sorry, wrong address, please serve me here in PA?'' Not sure what to do?

Re: serving papers to wrong address, wrong state
Atty. Sklavos is right. Don't just assume that you owe this debt at this point. I'm assuming that you were living in NY when you signed the contract for the debt, or incurred the debt. If that's the case, then the statute of limitations is 6 years in NY. (4 in PA).
Since this matter is in NY at the moment, you should talk to Atty. Sklavos or another NY attorney familiar with this area of the law to determine if you are still responsible for this debt, or if there is a statute of limitations or service problem that could get you out from under it. Good luck.

depends - if you just want to pay it - yes - how old is the debt, it is possible that it could get thown out if the debt is more than 6 years old, and they can't prove good service. Feel free to email me for a further dialogue.
