Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

social security number sloen by father, now bank account frozen

my father used my ssn when i was a child to obtain a credit card(we have same name) my bank informed me AFTER it was frozen. the address they show is not mine, I never receved any papers regarding this. it is even in a different county than mine according to there records I had a credit card when i was seven.the date of birth is wrong by a year. I contacted teh company to clear it up, I feel they are giving me ''the run around'' I faxed him a copy of my drivers license to prove my date of birth and current address now they are demanding further proof of my identity. concidering the obvious flaws in there paper work are they liable for anything or the county which it was issued? I have read that I could have it vacated but i feel I`m entitled to my accounts back + intrest and suffering I have had to borrow money from family and my employers, It is embarissing. My bank treated me like a criminal and now running low on funds. do I have any legal recorse? do pro bono attorneys exist anymore? I have also red flaged my credit report and am starting to write certified letters to all parties. thanks, broke and betrayed

You have a good case. You can petition the court for relief. In addition, all of the money paid out must be accounted for by the bank. They cannot give away your money based on forged documents.

Go inperson to the bank with your identification as a start and request that the bank return all funds to your account. If they decline, then it is time to get a lawyer.
