Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I sold an item I got as a gift to a guy for $540 he gave me a check for the amount , the check. Cleared after 3 days then a few hours later it was returned . Bank stated the account was frozen/blocked . Called the guy and he stated he would take care of it as soon as possible.my bank sent a copy of the check saying the account was frozen/blocked 2 weeks later. It's been 3 weeks I've called a few times a day and left text messages but he failed to make payment. 3 days ago I went to drop off a demand letter at his residence stated on the check . He wasn't home his mother answered. I didn't leave it since she seemed hostile about the situation. The guy sent me a message telling me he won't make payment since I went to his residence. I would like to know if I could sue him for the check and for more since his actions are making it difficult for me to pay my bills .

Q. I would like to know if I could sue him for the check and for more since his actions are making it difficult for me to pay my bills.

A. You may sue him for the value of the check. You may also sue him for the court costs. I would suggest commencing a small claims action.

Mike.
