Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

statue of limitation

In my credit report a collection agency is trying to collect 295.00 for a medical bill dated 4/04 for a doctor I never saw. In 2005 I disputed the same debt that a hospital had billed me for services from the same doctor for 1,600. and it was deleted from my credit .

Re: statue of limitation

Statute of limitations is 6 years from the date the money was deemed due and owing. If the medical bill was due in April 2004, it is my opinion that the time to collect on the bill expired.
