Call the New York City Bar Association at 212.626.7373 and ask for a referral.
Beyond this, it depends on what kind of summons you received. If it is a violation summons, you need to read the instructions on the back. Most violations, you simply appear and do a deal with the DA. Or have an attorney do so. Remember that you may have a legal right to counsel in such a case.
If you are summoned to landlord-tenant court, go to the courthouse right away and see the "Landlord-Tenant Clerk (Personal Appearance)." He will help you.
If it is small claims court, just appear on the appointed date.
If it is big court (Supreme Court or the Civil Division of Civil Court) you may have to answer the complaint. Go to the Clerk's office at 60 Centre Street (for Supreme) or 111 Centre (for civil court) and ask the court officers to direct you to the personal appearance clerk.
Good luck.
