Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Summons and complaint without judge's signature

I recently received, via regular mail, a summons from a collection

agency that was without a judge's name or signature. There was

no time or date specified as to when I should come to court and it

told me to appear infront of the city clerk but didn't get any more

specific. Can there be such a thing as a summons that wasn't

issued by a judge? It also has written Basis of Venue: Defendent's

Residence. Does that mean that they want to verify my address or

want to put a lien on it? I rent.

Thank you!

Re: Summons and complaint without judge's signature

1. - Why do you think a Judge's signature is needed? That is incorrect.

2. - Read the text in the summons..yo have either 20 or 30 days in which to serve on t he other lawyers AND file your answer in Court.

3, The basis of venus in your address..where you live gives that Court jurisdiction. It matters not whether you rent or not.

Good Luck
