Summons recieved- intent to sue

I recieved a ( consumer credit transaction) letter from supreme court of dutchess county new york. Summons to answer the complaint in this action. Asset acceptance llc an assignee of citibank. They are demanding judgment of 10,000. They will accept 8,700 in settlement. My question is can i reduce the settlement amount by aquiring an attorney?

Perhaps...Right now the dicsount appears to be 13%. Make a reasonable counter offer..see what happens...BUT you must answer the summons and complaint.
