Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
Ulility Co. bill, am I responsible?
There is a collection account on my credit report in regards to a NYS utility co. Service was put in my name while i was out of country by an old girlfriend of mine. It is showing on mine, but not hers. Am I responsible for this debt? Should I validate? If it proven as not mine, can the original creditor pursue her although they already turned it over to collections? And does anyone know what type of contract that would be, and the statute of limitations for such a contract?

If you just received notice, dispute the validity of the debt within 30 days in writing.
If only off the credit report, write to the Creditor and explain what happened, and that this was done without your permission, knowledge and consent.
Good Luck.
