Re: warrant question

No. It is not a crime to owe money, but it is also not a good thing to not show up in court. The creditor can get a default judgment against you. Then the creditor gets the right to collect the debt by various means, including all fees and costs of collection. It will be on your credit record, your wages may be subject to garnishment, and personal property can be seized, but certain items are exempt from seizure.

Better that you go and either try to contest the debt or negotiate a settlement. Most creditors would rather get something than nothing.

Re: warrant question

In my experience, questions listed to LAW GURU are filled with errors by persons such as yourself since you are not familiar with the area of law. As my colleagues stated arrest is not something that happens if you owe money. HOWEVER, if you ignore a subpoena to appear in court to answer questions about your assets YOU CAN BE HELD IN CONTEMPT OF COURT and be subject to civil arrest. You must provide a detailed explanation of the facts so a proper response can be made. If you owe money and there is a judgment entered against you the judgment CREDITOR can serve you with a subpoena which demands that you come to court and answer questions about your assets...If you do not you can be held in CONTEMPT of COURT. I have seen people brought into court in handcuffs (County Sheriffs on either side) and these people can be thrown in jail for failing to respond to a subpoena...do you remember the movie MY COUSIN VINNIE? Vinnie was thrown in jail several times by the Judge...not for committing a crime...but for being held in contempt of court. you must obey a judicial subpoena!!
