If your son was charged with assault, you should see a criminal attorney.

If your son is thinking of suing someone for the assault, he should see a personal injury (negligence) attorney.

You need to call the District Attorney's office, file a complaint and see it through.

If your son was the agressor it may not turn out how you like. You may also file a civil action based on the injuries he suffered and any damageds he may have incurred.

Re: 3rd degree assult

I would try to find a lawyer who is well versed in both Criminal law and civil law. Either way you are looking for a trial lawyer, one who will investigate the case and present facts.

Just realize that if the injuries from the assault are not serious, then there is little to be gained from suing.

I am assuming the case was already reported to the police.

Good luck.
