Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
an 19 year old acquaintance committed a felony. does he qualify for legal aid- ( he doesn't work-) or are his parents responsible for obtaining a lawyer for him? they reside in brewster, new york?

Whether or not he will be assigned a free lawyer usually depends on the jurisdiction of the court. In New York City the standards are very lax and he would be given a lawyer. In some upstate counties, because of his age, they may require the parents to pay for the lawyer, unless he is emancipated and not living at home with his parents.
