if our 12 year old son was assulted by an adult and the DA is handleing the case. do we need a lawyer?

You won't need a criminal attorney, if that's what you were asking. However, you may wish to consult with a civil attorney (personal injury) to determine if one or more parties are liable for your son's injuries and whether there is any applicable insurance policies from which to recover.
