Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I have been accused of receiving a shipment of books and have to appear at the prescient tomorrow at 9AM. The detective only said that if it were really serious they would have been at my front door. My question is, if there is no signature proof of delivery, do they have a case against me? What should I say?

You really to need to go with an attorney. Things can get serious if you try to handle this on your own.

Say nothing and tell the police you want to postpone the inquiry until you can retain an attorney. This may turn out more serious than you realize. You may contact my office for a consultation @7188340087.

You should invoke your right to remain silent and to counsel. The police will use anything you say against you. You need an attorney to speak with the detective to see what the deal is and to see if you are a target. The attorney can also convey your version, if it makes sense to do that, to the police so it can't be used against you. The police often ask people to come to the station because they don't have to worry about something bad happening when they try to make an arrest either on the street, at a house/aparment or a job. Its easier and safer for the police to have them come to you. The fact that they did not come to your door already does not necessarily mean you are not going to get arrested. I am a former federal and State prosecutor and now do criminal defense. Feel free to check out my web site and contact me.
