That is not right that the lawyer has not responded to you. You can change attorneys. You can hire an attorney and have a consent to change of attorney form. If the crime took place in New York then Jail would be in New York. Contact me if you need assistance

Your father is in New York because he has been accused of committing a crime in New York. As for his attorney, he should be able to talk to his own attorney, the attorney does not have to respond to you but should and it is not right that they have not. You can not request a change of the appointed attorney for your father, he must do that himself unless he is ruled incompetent. You can retain a private attorney and your father could request that the new attorney be substituted for his present counsel but he must be involved in the process.

I would need more information in order to properly determine what happened. The assigned attorney should be responding to you. Your father can ask for a new appointed attorney, althought the judge may not be willing to do so. However, if your father retains a private attorney most judges will allow the substitution as long as it does not cause a major delay.
