Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Can you be arraigned in a town other than the one you were arrested in?

My 19 yr old son was arrested in the village that we live in on a class D felony. He was arraigned by the judge of another town and was sent to jail. When we went to court, he was in front of the judge of the arresting town. He was not aware that my son had even been arraiged. The judges receptionist stated ''they put in on the wrong paper. It was supposed to go on ours'' Can u be arrested in one town but arraigned in another? I was under the impression that you had to be arrainged in the town where you were arrested
