Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
arrest
if you are stopped by the police and asked if they can search your vehicle.you say no. how long can you be held without actually being arrester

It all depends on the circumstances, but a reasonable amount of time is the standard. Sometimes you may be detained while they are obtaining a search warrant from the emergent Judge on Call. If you have additional questions I can be reached at 212/847/9595.
