Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Arrest Warrant

I was charged in the summer of 2007 with petit larceny and returned to court the first time, but failed to show up at my second court date. It was in a location that requires a lot of travel to get to and I am a full time college student. I recieved notice 4 months ago that there was a warrant out for my arrest. In a month I will have enough money to travel to the court and pay bail. What are the possible consequences of this situation? Can I be charged with a greater crime?

Re: Arrest Warrant

Failure to appear or bail jumping can be independently charged. If you voluntarily appear and have the warrant vacated before the bail jumping charge is filed you may be able to avoid it.With good representation you depending on your prior criminal history and the jurisdiction, may be able to both avoid jail and a permanent criminal record.
