Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I was never arrested on my mother in law filed a police report on me, for idenity theft in the 1st degree and grand larceny in the 4th degree. My mother in law does not want to press charges, and I have to go back to court in march I never had this happen to me in my life. Never been arrested for this just questioned. The detective hunted me down and asked me to go to the police station to fill out a statement , which I did he let me go. I have two accounts that I am planning on paying on, once I get my taxes I can make a large payment on one. I dont want jail time I will loose everything ... Please advise thank you

Once a criminal complaint results in an arrest, the decision to drop charges is up to the prosecution and not to the complainant. However, a complainant can strongly recommend to a prosecutor that charges be dropped. A lawyer for her (not you) could help accomplish this.
