Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
What to do if I get arrested?
I am NYC public school teacher under investigation by the NYC department of education. The allegations are those of a sexual/inappropriate type of misconduct.
What can I do to protect myself?
What are my options if this investigation should lead to an arrest?
What is the best way to prove my innocence? By the way, I have no formal charges during this investigation and it is going on a year in October.
Finally, where can I get free legal aid?

You should retain an attorney to advise you on the best course of action. Allegations such as these can end your career and you need to review your options with an attorney sooner rather than later, especially if there is a chance you can avoid an arrest. You should not say anything to anybody about this case unless it is your attorney. Please feel free to contact my office if we may provide any assistance in this matter.

For free legal help try calling the The Legal Aid Society of NY.
However given your job, it is very unlikely you will qualify for free legal help.
You have a lot invested in your career. You should have gotten legal help a long time ago. The best way to handle an arrest is not get arrested in the first place. Hence run to a lawyer and lawyer up right away. You can pay the lawyer by the hour or even by the month in many investigatory cases. Do not give any statements to police or for anyone else beside your own attorney. Even a union attorney represents the union and not you so the privilege issue is in the air.
As far as the other questions you ask, they should be answered by your own lawyer.
I handle these types of investigations and prosecutions. I am a criminal defense attorney. If you would like to take the time to speak to me, contact me by following the links below.
