You should speak with an attorney. You may very well be facing a misdemeanor charge that carries a possible penalty of up to a year in jail. Given this fact along with your immigration concerns it is highly recommended you consult with an attorney. An attorney may be able to resolve this in a way that does not result in lasting consequences to you. Also, the attorney may be able to get your case advanced, so that it can be resolved prior to your trip. HIRE AN ATTORNEY, if you do not show up in court on the date set, and you do not have an attorney appear for you there will be a warrant issued for your arrest... you will without question need to hire someone, as this will be heard before a criminal court judge and they will not hesitate to issue such a warrant.
