Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

First arrest:petit larceny

I am a 28 year old woman who recently made a very bad

mistake and was arrested for petit larceny. The goods

stayed in the hands of the storeowners after my arrest and I

believe the cash value was $175.00. My question is what is

the worst I can expect when I attend my DAT? I am most

worried about anyone, especially family, finding out what I

have done... is there anyway this can become public

knowledge? Where will this show up... Social Security # or

just fingerprints? Also, I think my family is planning a

trip abroad in about two months... is there any way this

might affect my going with them... again... I just worry

about them knowing what a horiible thing I have done.

Re: First arrest:petit larceny

On an arrest for pettit larceny where the defendant has no prior record it is highly unlikely that the penalty will include jail time In most instances this offense will be settled by plea bargaining to a lessor offense .Good luck and I hope your get a good attorney to negotiate the best possible solution.

The worst you can expect really depends on where this happened, and who the prosecutor is. You may be able to have the case dismissed after community service, or you may have to plead to a reduced charge. I would not, however, recommend that you attempt to negotiate this on your own.
