Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Attorney fees
A firend was involved in an assault. He was attacked by 4 men. The case went to criminal court and they were convicted. He is currently getting together a civil case with his attorney. The attorney is going to sue the men. Iis it normal practice for the attorney to charge my friend $5000 up front? I thought in these types of lawsuits, the attorney only gets paid if the case is won? Please advise. My friend is very distraught over this.

Re: Attorney fees
You need to find a attorney that is willing to take this case as a contigency.
It does not seem right that your friend should pay for this matter up front.
If you would like recommendations of good NY attorneys which can handle this, I can be reached at 201-646-9600.
