Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

My bf's lawyewr told him at his trial that the DA offered a plea, he only told him it was jail time & probabtion but never clarified how much of each. After the fact I find out the the jail time was 6 months and 5 yrs probation. If knowing that my bf would have taken the plea...My question is there anything we can do seeing as how the lawyer never told him the information? I thought they HAD to let the client know all of it, not just parts? And is there anything we can do now that he has been convicted?

I would assume that when he took the plea, the judge told him what he was facing. This is the usual procedure. He would probably get nowhere trying to get the sentence or plea overturned because no one would believe that when he was told jail and probation, he didn't ask how much of each.
