Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Bouncer citizens arrest

Is it lawful for a club bouncer to detain a patron for the use of a fake ID? At the entrance to a club, I presented a fake ID (California state, not my picture, not mine or any real address). I was then forcibly brought into the exit hallway of the club, where I was forced to remain for about 5 minutes of questioning by the bouncer. He then let me run away. He was clearly making a power play for his own enjoyment, but the incident got me wondering about the legal restrictions on bouncers.

Re: Bouncer citizens arrest

This was not a citizens arrest, forcible detention, or kidnapping, imho. You could have left, right? It was your decision to enter the club, or try to, and no one handcuffed you to the wall. If you don't want huge men treating you like shit, probably not the best idea to try to goof your way into a NYC club with a bad ID.
