Boyfriend going to court for felony of a controlled substance

In the state of NY, my boyfriend was pulled over for his tint apparently. They searched his car and found that his friend had a controlled substance and my boyfriend was charged. He is going to court next week. What can happen to him? He was held for 5 hours and released without bail. He has no priors. Thank you.

The Drivers of cars are presumed to know what any passenger has in their possession... However, a stop for tint does not in and of itself give cause for the police to search a vehicle...

I'd like to hear more abou this case.

Your boyfriend could potentially be looking at a stiff jail sentence, dependong on the amount of drug, and what drug... If possible i would suggest he hire himself an attorney instead of relying on a public defender.
