Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Car has been impounded

My car was imounded on 7/13 due to a passanger carrying a gun and putting it in the back seat of the car my son was driving. My son is 17 and we reside in NY. Cops, detective and DA have yet to contact me on the car situation and claim they diddn't have to because my son is considered an adult. However they released my son the same day and kept the guy who had the gun but impounded my car. What is my rights as far and getting my car returned since I have got nothing but a run around from the precient and no call back from the DA. They kept my sons licence, cell phone, keys and sneakers in the car and let him go after a few hours that day. I feel like this whole situation is being handled wrong. PLease advise ASAP

Re: Car has been impounded

You should contact the property release unit of the district attorney's office. If the DA sends a letter to the police saying they no longer need the car as evidence then the car can be released back to the owner, unless the police have vouchered it for forfeiture for some reason. Please feel free to contact my office if we can be of any assistance in this matter.
