Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Out come of case, Is this a conviction?

Hi,

Back in the early 90's, I was arrested, and release with a ticket to appear in court. Legal aide stated intent to sell, I plead guilty to disorderly conduct. (this all happen following what the legal aide told me to do) All I wanted to do was go home. I recall the Judge stating-case was dismissed and if I got into no trouble for (1) year-record to be sealed, or something like that.

Job application question: Have you ever been convicted of an offense? Does ''convicted'' mean jail time? Also, for my knowlege, would the explanation be in reference to the original charge or the guilty plead to disorderly conduct. If I have inform them.

Thanks

KG

You plead guilty to an offense. If your job is in NY they are not supposed to ask anything other than have you ever been convicted of a crime. You have not.

I would go back to court house and make sure my docket was sealed in the court house. Even if the judge ordered it sealed it may not have made it.

Good luck.
