Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
I was caught shoplifting today and i am 18. It is my first offence ever and the item was worth 60$. I have to appear in court and i just want to know what i should plea

Of course you should always plead NOT GUILTY as it provides you with time and opportunity to discuss the charges with an attorney and/or the DA to reduce or dismiss the charges.
In smaller cases like this, hiring an attorney is often the smartest thing you can do, especially if you're planning to ever attend college, post-grad, or get a job anywhere.

I do not know what county your case is in. In some counties you will be offered an ACD, a delayed dismissal. Usually at worst the case will be reduced to a violation, a non-criminal offense. Plead not guilty and see what is offered..
