Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I was charged with petite larceny in 2009. At my lawyer's advice I stopped paying the retail store's restitution payments because I fulfilled the requirements for my ACD. The retail's law offices will not stop calling me, years later, to finish paying them but it is already a dismissed case. How can I get them to leave me alone?

From my experience, the collection agency coming after you is just a bluff. You can ignore them, but it might effect your credit. Perhaps settle for a lower amount.

Did you agree to pay restitution? If you signed something agreeing to pay, they'll continue to pursue this debt. If you were just paying because you felt obligated to pay and they don't have paper or a judgement on you, then you may want to have your attorney send them a cease and desist letter.
