Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
charged for rape`
my husband was charged with rape over 25 years ago. He spent 2 months in jail. I am from Canada and he cant cross the border without a bond. Is there not a limitation on crimes? He has not been in trouble since and leads a very trouble free life. What are the chances of him recieving a bond?

Re: charged for rape`
I am afraid that there is no statute of limitations on convictions in New York State. Nor does New York have a sealing statute so his conviction will stand and stay on his record. As for the bond, that is required by Canada not the US. Although there is a way in New York State to get a Certificate of Relief from Civil Disabilities which in some cases can aleviate some problems associated with a conviction. When dealing with federal or international bodies or laws this Cerificate will not accomplish what you are looking for.
