Re: what can i be charged with?
On the facts you have related, there is no crime.
Borrowing is not a crime. Not taking it back is the criminal part. If the laptop is at work now, there is no crime.
However, you may be charged with a crime. This would be larceny. Based on the value of an old laptop, petit larceny. This is a misdemeanor and punishable usually by a fine.
A good lawyer can get it reduced to a violation and a fine after the arraignment. In your business, a violation will have no impact on your career, but a misdemeanor will have a big impact.

Re: what can i be charged with?
Sounds like a larceny charge. The type of larceny (misdemeanor or felony) depends on the value of the property allegedly stolen. You should have an attorney contact the Police Department to find out what they plan to do.
