Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

two same charges into one court date case

if the DA brought 2 petit larceny cases into one single case to arraign in 1 single court date for the same defendant. is that a bad or good thing? what are the options for the defendant? would it mean he will be convicted of the misdemeanor for sure due to 2 larceny cases together? or does that mean he will plea to only 2 violation with double fine? or does that mean he can get 1 case dismissed and plea to 1 violation only? assuming he has no prior criminal record.

Re: two same charges into one court date case

The decision to charge two crimes into one date does not per se mean anything. It could mean everything you suggested it could also be a way of consolidating the court calendar. It is up to the lawyer for the defendant to figure out the meaning and use that for the defendant's benefit. It certainly can be a good thing in plea and sentence bargaining, but could be a bad thing if the cases are tried together. On the other hand, that is not always true.
