What are the charges for filing a false police report in ny? My friend had an argument with her new boyfriend, whom her family does not know about. Her family is very strict. The super of her apartment building called the police. When they came, she told them that it was her childs father, whom she has a restraining order against, that was in her apartment fighting with her. If she comes forward and changes the report, what will happen to her?

Most police reports contain a notice that filing a false report is punishable as an A misdemeanor. With that being said, changing the information in a police report or requesting the report to be vacated are steps that can be taken. An innocent person should not be prosecuted for any reason.
