Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
charges months after
Shoplifting incident in NYC over 8 months ago. No police involved (civil demand paid in full promptly a week after). As a non NY resident, what is the chance prosecution may still take place? Nothing received in the mail so far, but perhaps non-residents don't get it in the mail. Is there a way one can have an attorney in NY (?) check for possible charges filed? Concerned, also, because of travel plans and that it may take years for prosecution to happen as a non-resident.
