Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Check Fraud
I have taken the driver's license and pay roll check of a friend and cashed it at a local check cashing establishment. I recieved the money and have spent it. The employer had already stopped payment on the check and the check casher did not check first. Now he has contacted the employer and they will not reemburse him. What can I do if anything to resolve this situation with the check cashing establishment? If I make an agreement to pay them back can they still take criminal action? Should I be contacting them through a third party or lawyer?
